Every AI infrastructure conversation eventually comes back to the same question: where does the power come from? Land is available. Fiber can be built. Workforce can be trained. But power, utility-grade, reliable, scalable power, is the constraint that determines whether a data center project is feasible or not. LegacyGrid AI treats power as the project. The Power Shortfall Problem

U.S. data center demand could reach 74 GW by 2028, with a projected shortfall of approximately 49 GW in available power access. This is not a future problem. It is a current constraint that is already shaping where data centers can and cannot be built. Sites with existing utility access, substation capacity, and transmission infrastructure have a significant advantage over sites that require new grid infrastructure to be built from scratch.

Why ERCOT Matters for Texas

Texas operates on the ERCOT grid, an independent grid that does not connect to the broader U.S. grid. ERCOT has significant renewable energy capacity, particularly wind and solar, that can support data center power demand. The constraint is that ERCOT's interconnection queue is long, and large new loads require careful coordination with grid operators. For PVAMU and the Waller County corridor, ERCOT interconnection is a first-order feasibility question.

The Community Energy Question

A data center that draws significant power from the local grid without mitigation can strain utility infrastructure and increase costs for surrounding residents. This is a legitimate community concern that responsible data center development must address from the beginning of the feasibility process, not as an afterthought after the deal is signed.
